How I got involved?
I moved to Thailand in May 2009. On July 4^th I brought a disc to the Independence Day Celebration at Municipal Stadium and met Chris and Joom who told me about Chiang Mai Ultimate.

How long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since 2004 when I was a freshman in university. We used to play in the campus quad with trees and sidewalks. The sidewalks were our end zones and the trees were… well… the trees were like extra defenders.

Why Ultimate Frisbee and not another sport?
I like most sports but there’s something about the community of ultimate frisbee that is unmatched in the other sports I’ve played.

Spirit or competition?
I remember very clearly when I was in college there was a senior guy I really looked up to. My team beat his team in the intramural playoffs (I skied him at least once). I went to congratulate him on a hard-fought game but he wouldn’t even give me a high five and just walked away. I love to compete and play hard but there’s no point for me in a game of ultimate (or anything else in life) if it doesn’t help build relationships. I really like the way Chuck put it in his bio. Spirit first. Competition second.

Favorite tournament?
This 2014 Bangkok Hat Tournament was awesome for me. I got to play against one of my best friends – Ekk in the finals! It was such a fun tourney and my team was truly amazing to play with.

Favorite thing about ultimate in Chiang Mai?
Two words: people. I love the people of Chiang Mai ultimate so much! We’re all so different from different backgrounds, beliefs, ages, levels of experience, and everything else! That’s not the point. The point is that we love each other and we love to play ultimate. We support each other, laugh with one another, and play some great ultimate. Playing ultimate with the people of Chiang Mai will go down as my favorite thing about my experience Thailand. Thank you all!
