How I got involved?
I first learned about and came out to play ultimate because my friend told me to come check it out and I listened, thinking we would just be standing somewhat in circles and throwing discs to each other just for fun. Then I realized it was the opposite. It was actually a game of sport that I just never knew existed, and it was like playing soccer but with your hands.
How long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since May 2011 so you can do the math. And it’s been a journey.
Why Ultimate Frisbee and not another sport?
Well, for me personally, I wasn’t the team sport type. I usually went off working out on my own. Also, most sports I saw here usually consist of male players and not really woman-encouraging. But Ultimate is different. Everyone supports and encourages everyone else, regardless of whether you’re male, female, a beginner, a pro, athletic or not. We all have got to start somewhere. We can improve. We can compete but still have fun together no matter what. That’s the spirit.
Is it hard to find and play Ultimate Frisbee here?
I would say yes and no. If you already play then you can just search online for the community and location. However, it is not one of the most popular or familiar sports in Thailand so, unless you’re in Chiang Mai, Bangkok or somewhere with an Ultimate community, it’s quite challenging to find someone to play with.
Is CM ult stricly about playing frisbee? is it a social community that goes beyond that? or is it both?
Chiang Mai Ultimate is all about playing Frisbee and competing, BUT it is ALSO a social community. You play and work hard together as a team in the game but you are friends, acquaintances, people you can have a good time with as well as ask for help when you need one. This is true for Chiang Mai Ultimate, true for Ultimate in Thailand and everywhere in the world. You become part of the connection that never ends. There’s just so much LOVE and FUN flowing all the time!
