How did I get involved?
I met Ultimate frisbee at Zoe and after 2 buckets we were dancing to ‘Call Me Maybe’ like backpackers on ecstasy. Just kidding A coworker invited me to a barbecue at his house where I met Davor, we talked for hours about rugby, Chiang Mai, living here, and everything (it is very easy to talk to Davor), and finally landed on organized sports in Chiang Mai. I was desperate for anything so I came out for frisbee and had a great time with amazing people… I haven’t looked back since.
How long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing for about one year now.
Why Ultimate Frisbee and not another sport?
Ultimate frisbee has a great community of people who are accepting and fun. It draws together an interesting crowd of those who come to live here, stay for a little while or those quickly traveling through. It’s a great way to meet new people and good exercise as well. I like other sports too!
Spirit or competition?
I like to keep a good spirit, while still being competitive. It’s possible to positively encourage the other team, congratulate them for doing a great job, while still wanting your team to succeed. One of the best parts of Ultimate for me is the spirit aspect of the game, and how it is emphasized as the most important part of the game. This is in contrast to most of the sports teams I have played on, and I have welcomed the change of attitude. Although sometimes I do get caught up in the competition!
Is it hard to find and play Ultimate Frisbee here?
It’s not hard at all to find and play Ultimate here. Just look us up and show up!
Chiang Mai Ultimate is a community in many ways. We are friends, we compete, we sweat together, we bond. We share food, rides, jokes, exhaustion at the end of a long tournament, and joy at a universe-point score. I’m proud to say CM Ultimate is more than a team of friends, they are my family.
